The Village of Forth
Forth Village is situated near Lanark, Scotland on the A706. It is twinned with Yvetot & Hemmingen and stands 1000 feet above sea level, with a population of around 3500.
Forth is surrounded by smaller villages of Climpy, Braehead, Wilsontown with Haywood, Woolfords, Auchengray and Tarbrax lying to the east of Wilsontown.
Transport links are good with buses to Lanark and Glasgow and Livingston. The local shops are well supported, Forth has a Nursery and Primary School, Sports Centre, Library, Post Office . Grogery shops & Eateries.
Famous people from Forth include George Gracie who featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the Scotland's tallest man at 7 foot 3 inches ( 221 cm's) and weighed 32 stone (203kg).
The local football team are Forth Wanderers.
Also from the sporting world, Willie Waddell who had a very distinguished career in football. He was born and brought up in the village of Forth. He first played with Lanark Grammar School and was then signed for Forth Wanderers before going to play with Glasgow Rangers, and the Scotland team. After his playing days he became manager of Kilmarnock before moving to Rangers.
The Willie Waddell Memorial Committee achieved their dream to rename the SportsCentre, which took place two days after what would have been Mr. Waddell’s 98th
birthday on Saturday 9th March 2019, see News page for more details.

Forth has won several awards. In the Beautiful Scotland Awards campaign. The latest in 2024
Flourishing Forth won the Celebration Award which they described as “the surprise of the night” – as well as a silver gilt certificate for their work in the South Lanarkshire village.
The group has worked to set up a huge polytunnel to grow the plants which are used to fill nearly 100 colourful hanging baskets and barrels which brighten up the area’s streets each summer.
Run by Forth and district initiative, the group has an eco site housing not only the polytunnel but several other environmental projects including collecting rainwater to use for plants as well as solar-powered light.
