Tarbrax School
Tarbrax first school opened in 1885 in premises built by the Lanark Oil Company, Mr Mackintosh was headmaster. Company employees paid between 1p and 2p per week, and non employees up to 4p per week ( for the senior classes). There were 6 classes plus infants attended by 92 pupils. The girls were taught needlework. The school was also used for the mission. Following closure of the oil company, the school reopened in 1890, now owned by the Calendonian Mineral Company. Run by Carnwath School Board, it was free.In 1940 the bulding was not entirely watertight, and its closure was around 1847 and demolished around 1953.
